Opening/Closing Computer Lid (B80 Series)

The model displayed may vary from the actual model.

Unfasten the two screws on the computer lid and pull the lid toward the back of the computer to remove it.
Align the protrusions on the computer lid with the grooves and push the lid toward the front of the computer to close it. Then, fasten the two screws on it.

Replacing the CPU

To upgrade the CPU for better performance of your PC, you need to replace the CPU first.

Caution:

Check the location and the type of the CPU on the mainboard, and do the following.
The shape of CPU cooler (cooling fan and heat sink) may vary by model, but its order of assembly and disassembly are the same.
Please use the service center if you are not experienced with replacing computer parts.
You will be charged for replacement and expansion services, even if they are requested within the warranty period.
According to the model specification, a duct may not be provided.

The heatsink becomes hot if you use the computer, so replace the CPU after it has cooled down.
To replace the CPU, do not forget to contact our PC Customer Support Center (1544–7777) for information on purchasing and installing a CPU.
The CPU may be damaged if the CPU socket location does not correspond with the description on the CPU.
Do not remove white fluid below the CPU or the CPU cooler. It is cooling agent. It may cause an impairment.

Open the computer lid.
Please detach the power cable of the fan.
Unfasten the four screws fixing the CPU cooler and pull the CPU cooler up to remove it.
Press the fixed bar 1 outwards and then open bracket 2.
Lift up the CPU carefully to remove it from the mainboard.
Align the new CPU with the CPU socket without pins, to install the CPU. Fix it by lowering the bracket and pressing it towards the fixing bar.
Fix the CPU cooler with 4 screws after putting it into the right location.
Please connect the power cable of the fan.

Replacing / Adding Memory

You may need to expand the PC memory for better performance.

Tip:

We recommend using a service center certified by LG Electronics to expand the memory for a service fee. LG Electronics disclaims any responsibility for damage resulting from uncertified service or arbitrary disassembly.

About Memory

Check the specifications and features of the current memory before purchasing a memory.

This computer uses the 288-pin DIMM(Dual In-Line Memory Module) type DDR5 SDRAM.

Specifications

DDR5–4800 (PC5–38400)

However, the operating speed of the memory depends on the CPU specifications.

Type

8 GB (8,192 MB), 16 GB (16,384 MB)

Each slot supports 16 GB (16,384 MB), and the maximum memory capacity of the main board is 32 GB (32,768 MB).

Tip:

Before installing the memory

When disassembling the computer, wear gloves to prevent injuries from the internal parts of the computer or the expansion slot.
As memory is vulnerable to static electricity, beware of static electricity when removing or installing memory.
Check the specifications of the current memory and the new memory before expanding memory.
Depending on the system environment and your Windows version, the size of the installed memory and the memory displayed in Windows may be different.
When expanding the memory, use a memory of the same specifications ( DDR5 SDRAM for 1.1 V).
The DDR5 memory offers improved data transmission rates compared to existing memories and has a different shape.

When replacing or upgrading the memory, please contact LG Electronics Service Center.

When upgrading the memory, turn off the system and disconnect the power cable.

Removing Memory

Open the computer lid.
Push the latches outwards from the memory socket to remove the memory from its socket.

Inserting Memory

Before inserting the memory, check the memory socket and exposed parts for foreign substances.

Push the latches outwards from the memory socket.
Insert the memory into the memory socket after checking the direction.
Push the latches on the left and right side of the memory socket until they click.

If it was installed correctly the latches will close automatically. If it was not installed correctly, they will not close.
Close the computer lid.

Mounting Hard Disk (B80 Series)

This section only applies to general models only installed with a SSD but not with a hard disk.

The model displayed may vary from the actual model.

This PC uses a SATA (serial) hard disk drive.

Caution:

Make sure to press the fixing ledge when removing the signal cable.

Otherwise, the signal cable or port connecting mainboard / hard disk may be damaged.

The hard disk must be serial ATA type.

Caution:

When disassembling the computer, wear gloves to prevent injuries from the internal parts of the computer or the expansion slot cards.

Use screws compatible with the computer when installing the hard disk. Screws longer or thicker than specification may cause critical damage to electronic parts.

Open the computer lid.
Remove the one screw from the optical disk drive case.

Pull the optical disk drive case toward the back of the computer to remove it.
Remove the two screws from the additional hard disk case on the separated optical disk drive case.

Remove the additional hard disk case.

(There may not be any additional hard disk case depending on the model.)
Insert the hard disk to the optical disk case and then assemble the hard disk using four screws.
Push the optical disk drive case toward the front of the computer to mount it and fasten it with screws.

When installing the optical disk drive case, make sure that other cables are not in the way.
Connect the power cable to the installed hard disk as in 1 in the picture. Then connect the signal cable as in 2 in the picture.

Adding Hard Disk (B80 Series)

This section only applies to general models.

The model displayed may vary from the actual model.

This computer uses a SATA (serial) hard disk drive.

The hard disk type (3.5 inch or 2.5 inch) and capacity may differ depending on the model.

Caution:

Make sure to press the fixing ledge when removing the signal cable.

Otherwise, the signal cable or port connecting mainboard / hard disk may be damaged.

Before Adding a Hard Disk

Purchasing and installing an additional hard disk is optional.

The following instructions explain the most common installation, which is adding a hard disk as a slave to a computer with a master hard disk.

Installing and Connecting a Hard Disk

Prepare the hard disk to install.

The hard disk must be serial ATA type.

Depending on the model, a bracket (or case) is required to mount additional hard disks. Brackets may not be provided depending on the model specifications. If no bracket is provided, visit LG Electronics Service Center to purchase one.

Caution:

When disassembling the computer, wear gloves to prevent injuries from the internal parts of the computer or the expansion slot cards.

Use screws compatible with the computer when installing the hard disk. Screws longer or thicker than specification may cause critical damage to electronic parts.

Open the computer lid.
Remove two screws from the hard disk case and separate it.
Place the hard disk in an additional hard disk case and fix it in place with 4 screws.

It is recommended to purchase an additional hard disk case available through the LG Service Center.
Install the additional hard disk case under the optical disk drive.
Fasten the additional hard disk case with two screws.
Connect the power cable to the additional hard disk as in 1 in the picture. Then connect the signal cable as in 2 in the picture.

Warning:

Correctly connect the signal cable and the power cable. Otherwise, malfunctioning, product damage, or an electric shock may occur.

Adding Optical Disk Drive (B80 Series)

This PC uses a SATA (serial) optical disk drive.

The model displayed may vary from the actual model.

Caution:

Make sure to press the fixing ledge when removing the signal cable.

Otherwise, the signal cable or port connecting mainboard / hard disk may be damaged.

Open the computer lid.
Remove the one screw from the optical disk drive case.

Pull the optical disk drive case toward the back of the computer to remove it.
Remove the metal panel with a tool (e.g. Phillips screwdriver).
Remove two screws from the existing additional hard disk case to remove the hard disk case.

(There may not be any additional hard disk case provided depending on the model. If no additional hard disk case is provided, purchase one from LG Electronics Service Center and then add the optical disk drive.)
Remove 4 screws from the old hard disk and remove the hard disk.
Mount a new optical disk drive and connect the cables (power cable and data cable). Then, fix the optical disk drive in place with four screws.
Place the old hard disk in an additional hard disk case and fix it in place with 4 screws.
Push the optical disk drive case toward the front of the computer to mount it and fasten it with screws.

When installing the optical disk drive case, make sure that other cables are not in the way.
After installing an additional hard disk bracket under the optical disk drive, connect cables (signal cable and power cable) to the hard disk. Then fasten it with two screws.
Close the computer lid.

Replacing the CMOS Battery

The CMOS backup battery of the main board ensures that the system setup (BIOS) does not disappear even if the power is disconnected.

The CMOS backup battery is an expendable component.

Caution:

Please visit the LG Electronics Service Center to replace the CMOS battery.
The computer may be damaged if an incompatible battery is used.
The product warranty is not applied to failure or breakdown caused by willful damage by the user.

Open the computer lid.
Lift and remove the CMOS backup battery after pressing down on the fixing latch.

Insert a new CMOS backup battery.
Close the computer lid.
Turn on your computer, and when the LG Logo screen appears, press the [Delete] key to enter system setup.
Save the settings after adjusting the system setup according to its environment.

Installing/Replacing Expansion Card (B80 Series)

To upgrade the computer for better performance, you can install an expansion card.

Check if the computer has an expansion slot for installing an expansion card.

Tip:

Check whether the size of the expansion card matches the product.

General computers and slim computers have different sized expansion cards. You might not be able to install an expansion card if it is too long.
Regular expansion cards use two expansion card slots, so please be careful it does not interfere with parts in its vicinity.

Adding expansion cards may not be available depending on product specifications.

Before installing expansion cards, please contact the graphic card manufacturer.

Open the computer lid.
Remove the metallic slot cover of the expansion slot with a screwdriver.

Remove only the metallic slot cover of the expansion slot to use. Once you have removed the metallic slot cover, you cannot mount it again.

Use proper tools (e.g. screwdrivers) when removing metallic slot covers to prevent injuring your hand.

When disassembling the computer, wear gloves to prevent injuries from the internal parts of the computer or the expansion slot cards.
Holding the card with both hands, carefully align the card and press into the expansion slot.

If the expansion card is not installed correctly, it might cause damage or malfunction of the expansion card or mainboard.
Secure the expansion slot and the card area with one screw.

The number of screws used may vary depending on the type of expansion card.
Close the computer lid.
Install the expansion card driver after booting the computer.
