Setting up the speakers

The following illustration shows an example of positioning the speakers. Note that the illustrations in these instructions differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes.

For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be placed at the same distance from the listening position (a).

  • Speaker positions are as follows.
  1. A Front speaker with built in subwoofer (L)
  2. B Front speaker with built in subwoofer (R)
  3. C Receiver
  4. D Surround (Rear) speaker (L)
  5. E Surround (Rear) speaker (R)
  • Do not stack the speakers and be careful that the speaker should not fall down. Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunction and causing personal injury and/or property damage.
  • Make sure to install the speaker with other people in order to prevent it from falling and causing injuries to the installer.
  • Please ensure there are no obstacles between the receiver and the speakers.

Connecting the Product

Please make sure to disconnect the AC power cord before making any connection between the receiver and any other device.

Connecting the speakers

To connect the speakers to the receiver, insert the wires in the following order.

  1. a Connect a speaker cable plugs to the receiver. When connecting a speaker cable plugs to the receiver, insert the connector until it clicks.

  1. b Match each speaker cable plugs to the same coloured connection terminal on the rear of the receiver.

  • Do not try to lift the speaker alone. It needs two persons to lift the speaker. Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunction and cause personal injury and/or property damage.
  • Check the volume level before playing music to prevent infirm, child, and pregnant women from being shocked by the sudden and loud sound from the unit.
  • Do not use the product in a limited space. It may damage a person’s hearing. It is recommended to use it in a wide space.
  • The speakers contain magnet parts, so colour irregularity may occur on the TV screen or PC monitor screen. Please use the speakers far away from either TV screen or PC monitor.
  • Connect the product to the speakers and cables provided at the time of product purchase.
  • If you connect the product to speakers or cables other than those provided at the time of product purchase, there can be a deterioration of sound quality or a speaker malfunction.
  • When you connect speakers to the product, connect only one speaker to the output port that fits the speaker.
  • If you connect multiple speakers to one output port, it may cause a product or speaker malfunction.

You can use the remote to control all functions of the product, from turning the power on/off to enabling cinematic sound.

Use AAA 1.5V batteries. Replace the two batteries by inserting them into the remote control in accordance with the directions indicated.

  1. A Open the battery cover on the back of the remote control.
  2. B Insert the batteries with the + and – ends corresponding to the markings.
  3. C Close the battery cover.

Risk of fire or explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

In USB mode, press the button on the remote control repeatedly. Repeat/shuffle playback operates as follows.

  • FOLDER: Plays songs in a folder repeatedly.
  • ALL: Plays all the songs repeatedly.
  • SHUFFLE: Plays all the songs once randomly, and stops the playback.
  • OFF: Plays songs in order and stops the playback.

SETTINGS

Displays or exits the SETTINGS menu. ([ See “Settings and adjustments using the SETTINGS menu on page 35.)

STOP

  • Stops playback.
  • The product records the point where you pressed. If you press twice, the speaker will clear the stopped point.

Selects numbered files or preset number.

SLEEP

Sets dimmer or the system to turn off automatically at a specified time.

  • Press the button repeatedly to select delay time between 10 and 180 minutes. After the delay time, the unit will be turned off. To cancel the sleep function, press the button repeatedly until “OFF” appears.
  • You can check the remaining time before the unit is turned off. Press the button to check or change the remaining time.

When you use an LG TV (LG Sound Sync)

You can adjust the volume with the LG TV remote control if the TV is connected to the product with an optical cable. You can only do so on a TV that supports the LG TV Sound Sync function. Check your TV’s user manual to see if your TV is supported.

TEST TONE menu

You can check the speakers tone by listening to the test tone from your listening position.

If you experience the following issues while using the product, please perform several checks, as they may not be malfunctions.

General Errors

The product does not work properly

  • Unplug the power cables and any external devices such as your TV, subwoofer, or amplifier from the product, then plug them in again.

The power does not turn on

  • Is the power cord plugged into the outlet properly?
  • Connect the power plug to the outlet correctly.

There is no sound

  • Is the volume set to minimum?
  • Press the Volume152765.png152760.png button on the remote control to turn up the volume.
  • If you are using an external device such as a set-top box, portable device, or Bluetooth device, adjust the volume of the external device.
  • Is the mute function activated?
  • If “MUTE” appears on the status display, the mute function is on. Press the Mute85066.png button to unmute.
  • Is the correct product function selected according to the external device connected?
  • Press the Function152755.png button to check if you selected the correct function.
  • Connect the audio cables into the connection terminals correctly.

Radio stations cannot be tuned in properly.

  • The antenna is positioned poorly.
  • Reorient the antenna position to good reception.
  • The signal strength of the radio station is too weak.
  • Tune to the station manually.
  • No stations have been preset or preset stations have been cleared (when tuning by scanning preset channels). Preset some radio stations, ([ See “Presetting the Radio Stations on page 33.)

The remote control does not work properly

  • When using the remote control, point it at the front of the product.
  • Use the remote control within a 7-m radius of the product.
  • Replace the batteries with new ones as needed.

The Auto Power function does not work

  • Check connection to external devices (ex. set-top box, portable device, Bluetooth device).

LG Sound Sync does not work

  • Check whether your TV supports LG Sound Sync.
  • Check if the TV is properly connected to the product via an optical cable.
  • Press the Settings button on the TV remote control to check if the function is turned on in [LG Sound Sync].

The product volume is low

  • Check the following and change the settings accordingly.
  • Run the LG XBOOM app, tap the More product settings button on the first screen, and disable the [DRC] function on the [Device Settings] menu.
  • When the product is connected to a TV, press the Settings button on the TV remote control, select the [Speaker] menu, and change the [Digital Sound Output] setting from [PCM] to [AUTO] or [BITSTREAM].
  • If the product is connected to a playback device such as a DVD player or Blu-ray disc player, go to the connected device's Settings menu. Change the [Digital Sound Output] setting from [PCM] to [PRIMARY PASS-THROUGH] or [BITSTREAM]. Set the [DRC] of the connected device to [OFF].

The product fails to recognise a USB storage device

  • The product may not support the file format of the USB storage device. Format the USB storage device and reconnect it. When formatting, refer to the USB storage device formats supported by the product and select an appropriate file format. ([ See “Connecting to a USB Storage Device on page 45.)

A Bluetooth device cannot be paired

  • Press the Settings button on the Bluetooth device and check whether the Bluetooth function is enabled. If Bluetooth is enabled, turn it off and on, then try again.
  • Remove any obstacles between the product and the Bluetooth device.
  • Bluetooth pairing (connection) may not work properly depending on the Bluetooth device type or the surrounding environment.
