A Press the Power button to turn on the receiver.
B Plug the USB storage device into the USB terminal.
C Press the Function button repeatedly until “USB” appears on the status display.
D Press the Play/Pause button to enjoy the music.
f Connecting a Portable Device ([ See “AUX (Portable Input) Connection” on page 30.)
A Press the Power button to turn on the receiver.
B Connect the external device to the AUX terminal via a 3.5 mm stereo cable. Product will automatically recognised when connecting a stereo cable. “AUX” will appear on the status display.
C Turn the external device on and start playing.
g Connecting the product to your smartphone via Bluetooth ([ See “Connecting via Bluetooth” on page 42.)
A Press the Power button to turn on the receiver.
B Tap the Settings button on your smartphone and select Bluetooth. Turn on the Bluetooth function. (Off > On)
C Press the Bluetooth pair button on the remote control. After a moment, you will see “BT READY” on the status display.
D Find and tap the product on your smartphone. The product appears as “LG-MR11(XX).”
E When the product is connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth, you can see the status display change from “PAIRED” [ “Connected Bluetooth device name” [ “BT”.
h Connecting to the LG XBOOM app ([ See “Installing app” on page 53.)
A Find the LG XBOOM app on the Google Play or App Store and install it on your smartphone.
B Run the LG XBOOM app and use more features.

Setting up the speakers

The following illustration shows an example of positioning the speakers. Note that the illustrations in these instructions differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes.

For the best possible surround sound, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be placed at the same distance from the listening position (a).

Note

Speaker positions are as follows.

A Front speaker with built in subwoofer (L)
B Front speaker with built in subwoofer (R)
C Receiver
D Surround (Rear) speaker (L)
E Surround (Rear) speaker (R)

Do not stack the speakers and be careful that the speaker should not fall down. Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunction and causing personal injury and/or property damage.
Make sure to install the speaker with other people in order to prevent it from falling and causing injuries to the installer.
Please ensure there are no obstacles between the receiver and the speakers.

Connecting the Product

Please make sure to disconnect the AC power cord before making any connection between the receiver and any other device.

Connecting the speakers

To connect the speakers to the receiver, insert the wires in the following order.

a Connect a speaker cable plugs to the receiver. When connecting a speaker cable plugs to the receiver, insert the connector until it clicks.

b Match each speaker cable plugs to the same coloured connection terminal on the rear of the receiver.

c Plug the power cable into an outlet.

Note

Do not try to lift the speaker alone. It needs two persons to lift the speaker. Otherwise it may result in the speaker malfunction and cause personal injury and/or property damage.
Check the volume level before playing music to prevent infirm, child, and pregnant women from being shocked by the sudden and loud sound from the unit.
Do not use the product in a limited space. It may damage a person’s hearing. It is recommended to use it in a wide space.
The speakers contain magnet parts, so colour irregularity may occur on the TV screen or PC monitor screen. Please use the speakers far away from either TV screen or PC monitor.
Connect the product to the speakers and cables provided at the time of product purchase.
If you connect the product to speakers or cables other than those provided at the time of product purchase, there can be a deterioration of sound quality or a speaker malfunction.
When you connect speakers to the product, connect only one speaker to the output port that fits the speaker.
If you connect multiple speakers to one output port, it may cause a product or speaker malfunction.

a	Power This turns the product on/off.
b	LIGHTING Enjoy a light on the front of the receiver..
c	Play/Pause Starts or pauses playback Press the button to select Mono/Stereo in FM mode. Bluetooth pair Press and hold the button for 3 seconds or longer. It allows you to pair your Bluetooth device such as a smartphone to this product for three minutes. ([ See “Connecting via Bluetooth” on page 42.)
d	MIC Connect a microphone to the MIC jack. MIC Volume This adjusts the Microphone sound volume with levels 0 to 15.
e	Function Turns the knob to the right or left repeatedly to select the desired function or input mode. OPT/HDMI ARC: Connects the product to a TV that supports an optical cable, ARC or LG Sound Sync BT: Connects the product via Bluetooth. FM: You can listen to FM radio. USB: Connects the product to a USB storage device. AUX: Connects a portable device (MP3 player, etc). HDMI1/2/3: Connects the product to an HDMI input port.
f	Status display Options such as input mode and volume are displayed in text. If there is no active input for 15 seconds, the status display will automatically dim. When you press the button, the status display will light up again. You can change the display setting.([ See “DISPLAY menu” on page 39.) Remote Control Receiver This receives wireless signals from the remote control.
g	VOLUME (Volume knob) Turns the knob to the right or left repeatedly to adjusts the speaker volume with levels 0 to 100.
h	USB port Plug in a USB storage device to play music with the product. AUX Connects a portable device (MP3 player, etc) to AUX connector.

Note

This product will turn itself off to save electricity in the case were the receiver is not connected to an external device and is not used for 15 minutes (Except FM mode). On Aux mode, the product will turn off after 6 hours.

Exploring Remote Control

You can use the remote to control all functions of the product, from turning the power on/off to enabling cinematic sound.

Replacement of Battery

Use AAA 1.5V batteries. Replace the two batteries by inserting them into the remote control in accordance with the directions indicated.

A Open the battery cover on the back of the remote control.
B Insert the batteries with the + and – ends corresponding to the markings.
C Close the battery cover.

Risk of fire or explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

a	Power Turns the product on/off. Function Press the button repeatedly to select the desired input mode or function. OPT/HDMI ARC: Connects the product to a TV that supports an optical cable, ARC or LG Sound Sync. BT: Connects the product via Bluetooth. FM: You can listen to FM radio. USB: Connects the product to a USB storage device. AUX: Connects a portable device (MP3 player, etc). HDMI1/2/3: Connects the product to an HDMI input port. VOL (Volume) Adjusts the sound volume. Bluetooth pair It allows you to pair your Bluetooth device such as a smartphone to this product for three minutes. ([ See “Connecting via Bluetooth” on page 42.) Mute Mutes the sound. To cancel it, press on the remote control again or change the volume level. FOLDER Selects the USB folder. REPEAT In USB mode, listens to your files repeatedly or randomly. In USB mode, press the button on the remote control repeatedly. Repeat/shuffle playback operates as follows. ONE: Plays a same song repeatedly. FOLDER: Plays songs in a folder repeatedly. ALL: Plays all the songs repeatedly. SHUFFLE: Plays all the songs once randomly, and stops the playback. OFF: Plays songs in order and stops the playback. SETTINGS Displays or exits the SETTINGS menu. ([ See “Settings and adjustments using the SETTINGS menu” on page 35.) STOP Stops playback. The product records the point where you pressed. If you press twice, the speaker will clear the stopped point. Cancels DELETE function.
b	Skip/Search Moving to the next music: Press the button once. Moving to the previous music: Press the button twice quickly. While playing a file on a USB storage device, press and hold the Skip/Search button. The search begins. At this time, if you release your hand from the desired part, it will play from that part. Tunes in the desired radio station. Selects an option in the SETTINGS menu. ([ See “Settings and adjustments using the SETTINGS menu” on page 35.) PRESET Chooses a preset number for a radio station. c	EQ Press the button to select the desired sound field. AI SOUND PRO: Artificial intelligence selects the optimal sound settings to suit your content. CLEAR VOICE: Voice sound clear, improving the quality of voice sound. STANDARD: You can enjoy optimised sound. BASS BLAST (BASS BLAST+): Bass sounds are enhanced. FOOTBALL: Realistic sound like in a stadium. CINEMA: Play content with 3D sound similar to a movie theater. GAME: Optimised sound for game. MUSIC: You can enjoy better sound optimised for music. USBREC. (Recording) USB direct recording. ([ See “Recording to USB” on page 48.) INFO View the connected input source or Bluetooth information. BT: Connected Bluetooth device name. OPT/ARC/HDMI1/HDMI2/HDMI3: Current sound source. USB: Current sound file name. USB Recording: Current recording progress time. 0 to 9 numerical buttons Selects numbered files or preset number. SLEEP Sets dimmer or the system to turn off automatically at a specified time. Press the button repeatedly to select delay time between 10 and 180 minutes. After the delay time, the unit will be turned off. To cancel the sleep function, press the button repeatedly until “OFF” appears. You can check the remaining time before the unit is turned off. Press the button to check or change the remaining time. DELETE Deletes MP3/WMA files. (USB only). ([ See “Deleting a file/folder or format” on page 51.) Deletes all the saved stations.
d	VOICE CANCELLER You can reduce the vocal tones during music playback in USB and Bluetooth mode. * This button is not available. LIGHTING Turns the lighting on or off on the front of the receiver. KEY CHANGER Changes the key to suit your vocal range in USB and Bluetooth mode. MICECHO Press the button to select the desired ECHO mode when the microphone is connected. VOCAL EFFECTS Selects various vocal effects mode. MIC. VOL (Volume) This adjusts the microphone sound volume with levels 0 to 15.

Note

Do not look directly at the light emitting part when the LIGHTING is turned on.

How to deactivate the wireless network connection(s).

You can transmit TV audio to the product by connecting the TV to the product with an HDMI cable. Add a variety of 3D effects to the original audio to fill the room with a deep, rich sound.

Watching TV after connecting with an HDMI cable

a Using the HDMI cable, connect the HDMI™ OUT d TV (ARC) terminal on the back of the receiver to the HDMI IN (ARC) terminal on the TV as shown in the picture.

b Press the Function button repeatedly until “OPT/HDMI ARC” appears on the status display.

c Press the Settings button on the TV remote control to enter the [Speaker] menu and set the output speaker to [HDMI ARC]. Settings and menu items may vary depending on the TV manufacturer.
d When the TV is properly connected to the product, “ARC” will appear on the status display.

Note

Make sure that your TV supports the ARC function before you press the Setting button on the TV remote control and turn on ARC. For more information on how to set the function, refer to the TV user manual as it may differ depending on the TV.
If it does not switch to ARC function, make sure that SIMPLINK is turned on in the settings of the TV.
Use a certified cable with the HDMI logo.

SIMPLINK

SIMPLINK refers to the HDMI-CEC function that allows you to use a single TV remote control to easily operate an audio device or player connected to an LG TV via HDMI.
Functions controllable with a SIMPLINK-compatible LG TV remote control: Power on/off, volume control, mute on/off, etc.
For more information on how to set up SIMPLINK, consult your LG TV’s user manual.

Note

The SIMPLINK function may not work properly depending on the status of the product or other connected devices.
HDMI-CEC features by TV manufacturer: LG SIMPLINK, Sony BRAVIA Sync/Link, Philips EasyLink, Samsung Anynet+, etc.

Connecting via Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a technology that wirelessly connects electronic products around you. Connect the product to a TV via Bluetooth and enjoy your TV audio in high quality.

Watching TV after connecting it wirelessly

a Press the Bluetooth pair button on the remote control. After a moment, “BT READY” appears on the status display.

b Press the Settings button on the TV remote control and enter the [Speaker] menu to set the output speaker to [Bluetooth].
c Find and tap “LG-MR11(XX)”.
d When the product is connected to the TV via Bluetooth, you can see the status display change from “PAIRED” (Connected) [ “Connected TV name” [ “BT” (Ready to use).

Note

For Bluetooth devices, characters that cannot be displayed (ex. Korean Hangul) are shown as ‘-’ on the product status display.
Press the INFO button on the remote control to check the name of the connected Bluetooth device. You will see the name of the connected Bluetooth device appear on the status display.

Connecting with an Optical Cable

Transmit your TV’s audio to the product by connecting it to the TV with an optical cable. You can add a variety of 3D effects to the original audio to fill the room with a deep, rich sound.

Watching TV after connecting with an optical cable

a If the digital cable terminal has a cover, first remove the covers from both ends.

b Using an optical cable, connect the OPTICAL (DIGITAL AUDIO IN) terminal on the back of the receiver to the Optical Digital Output (OPTICAL OUT) terminal on the TV as shown in the picture.

c Press the Function button repeatedly until “OPT/HDMI ARC” appears on the status display.

d Press the Settings button on the TV remote control to enter the [Speaker] menu and set the output speaker to [Optical] or [External Speaker]. Settings and menu items may vary depending on the TV manufacturer.

Note

If the optical input signal and the ARC signal attempt to connect at the same time, the ARC signal will take priority.
If it does not switch to ARC function, make sure that SIMPLINK is turned on in the settings of the TV.

When you use an LG TV (LG Sound Sync)

You can adjust the volume with the LG TV remote control if the TV is connected to the product with an optical cable. You can only do so on a TV that supports the LG TV Sound Sync function. Check your TV’s user manual to see if your TV is supported.

Functions controllable with an LG TV remote control

Volume, mute on/off

Note

When the TV is properly connected to the product, “LGOPT” will appear on the status display.
When using the product with an LG TV remote control, the volume and mute status set on the TV will automatically be applied to the product.
You can still use the product’s remote control even after connecting it to an LG TV.
To use LG Sound Sync, you may have to change the sound setting of your TV. It may vary depending on the TV.

a Connect an external device such as a DVD or Blu-ray player. Following the picture below, connect the HDMI OUT terminal of the device to the HDMI™ IN1 or IN2 or IN3 terminal on the back of the receiver.
b Using the HDMI cable, connect the HDMI™ OUT d TV (ARC) terminal on the back of the receiver to the HDMI IN (ARC) terminal on the TV.

c Press the Function button repeatedly until “HDMI1” or “HDMI2” or “HDMI3” appears on the status display.

d When the external device is properly connected to the product, you can listen to the sound of the device.

Note

Please check the audio output settings in the Settings menu of your external device (ex. Blu-ray player or TV). The audio output should be set to [No encoding], [Bitstream], [Auto], or [Pass through]. For more information on how to set the output, please refer to your external device’s user manual.
Use a certified cable with the HDMI logo.

Be sure that the FM antenna is connected.

a Press Function button repeatedly until “FM” appears in the display window. The last received station is tuned in.

b Tune in the following way,

Auto tuning: Press and hold Skip/Search button on the remote control until the frequency indication starts to change, then release. Scanning stops when the product tunes in a station.
Manual tuning: Press Skip/Search button on the remote control repeatedly.

c Adjust the volume by pressing VOL on the remote control or turns the VOLUME knob of the receiver.

You can preset 50 stations for FM.

Before tuning, make sure to turn down the volume.

a Press Function button repeatedly until “FM” appears in the display window.

b Select the desired frequency by pressing Skip/Search button on the remote control.

c Press OK on the remote control. A preset number will blink in the display window.

d Press PRESET or 0 to 9 numerical buttons on the remote control to select the preset number you want.

e Press OK on the remote control. The station is stored.

f Repeat steps 2 to 5 to store other stations.
g To listen a preset station, press PRESET or 0 to 9 numerical buttons on the remote control.

Settings and adjustments using the SETTINGS menu

By using the SETTINGS menus, you can make various adjustments to customise the unit.

TEST TONE menu

You can check the speakers tone by listening to the test tone from your listening position.

a Press the SETTINGS button on the remote control. “TEST TONE” appears on the status display.

b When you press the OK button on the remote control, the test tone is emitted from each speaker in sequence as follows: You can select desired speakers manually by pressing PRESET repeatedly.

c You can verify each speakers tone.
d Press SETTINGS button to exit the setup menu.

LEVEL menu

You can adjust the level of each speaker. These settings are applied to all sound fields.

a Press the SETTINGS button on the remote control. “TEST TONE” appears on the status display.

b Press the PRESET button on the remote control until “LEVEL” appears on the status display.

c Press the OK button on the remote control. Then press the PRESET repeatedly until the desired speaker appears. The display changes cyclically in the display window as follows.:

d When the desired speaker is displayed, press Skip/Search to adjust the level of each speaker.

L	Front left speaker (- 6 to + 6)
R	Front right speaker (- 6 to + 6)
RL	Surround(Rear) left speaker (- 6 to + 6)
RR	Surround(Rear) right speaker (- 6 to + 6)

e Repeat and adjust the sound level of the other speakers.
f Press SETTINGS to exit the setup menu.

AV SYNC menu (Adjusting the audio delay)

You can delay the sound output using this function when the image is slower than the sound.

a Press the SETTINGS button on the remote control. “TEST TONE” appears on the status display.

b Press the PRESET button on the remote control until “AV SYNC” appears on the status display.

Please check the following first.

Bluetooth devices to be connected to the product should meet the following specifications.

Steps to connect the device to the product may vary depending on the Bluetooth device type and model. For more information on how to connect the device, please refer to your external device’s user manual.

Select the [Bluetooth] from your smartphone's Settings menu.

a Press the Power button to turn on the receiver.
b Press the Bluetooth pair button on the remote control. After a moment, “BT READY” appears on the status display.

Connecting the product to a USB storage device

a Plug the USB storage device into the USB port on the front of the receiver.

The product cannot play any devices connected via a USB storage device hub or a USB storage device cable.
The product cannot be connected to any USB storage device, USB type MP3 player, or card reader that requires a separate device drive to be installed.

b Press the Function button repeatedly until “USB” appears on the status display.

c When the product is properly connected to a USB storage device, the number of music files in the USB device will appear on the status display. Press the OK (Play/Pause) button to enjoy the music.

Note

It is recommended that you purchase a separate USB gender changer to make it easier to plug in and out USB storage devices.

USB devices with a large storage volume may take several minutes to browse through files.

You can record music or sound source to USB device by connecting in to the port on the receiver. (Can be used only when AUX, FM function)

a Connect the USB device to the receiver.

b Press the Function button to select a function (AUX or FM) you want to record.

c Start the recording by pressing USBREC. on the remote control. When recording in progress, “.” only blinks.

d If you want to pause, press the OK button on the remote control. “REC.” blinks.

e To stop recording, press STOP or USBREC. on the remote control. It’ll be stored as follows.

To prevent misuse of the product, please be sure to check the contents below.

Precautions for installing the product

Do not install the product in an unstable or vibrating place, such as on a shaking shelf or inclined surface. Install the product on a firm and level surface.
Otherwise, the product may fall or tip over and cause injury.
If you install the product on an unstable surface, the product may not work properly.
If you install the product on a piece of furniture or shelf, make sure that the bottom front of the product does not protrude. Always use a piece of furniture or shelf that fits the product size.
Otherwise, the product may lose its balance and fall, causing injury or product damage.
Install the product in a safe place. Otherwise, a child may bump into an edge of the product and get injured.
Install the product in a place free from electromagnetic interference for proper operation.
If you install the product in a place that does not meet the general use conditions, an unexpected quality problem may arise. So, make sure that you contact the service centre first before installing the product in such a place.

Remove obstacles between the product and the remote control for the smooth operation of the remote control.

The following only applies to models that use optical discs

Do not insert your hand into a disc drive or pull it out forcefully.
Make sure that children do not insert their hands into the disc drive.

The following only applies to models that able to watch video

Refrain from watching a 3D video if you didn't have enough sleep or after drinking alcohol.
Some 3D videos may surprise or excite people.
If any of the following symptoms occur while watching a video, stop watching it immediately and take a rest.
If any of the symptoms continue, consult a physician. Vertigo, burning sensation of eyes or face, unconscious motion, spasm, clouded consciousness, confusion, disorientation, nausea.
You may suffer a symptom such as a seizure when you watch a certain image in a video or game or a video with a certain pattern or flashing lights. If you or any of your relatives have a history of epilepsy or seizures, consult a physician before watching.
When you watch a 3D video, remove objects that are fragile or can cause injury from your surroundings.
If you mistake a 3D video as real or move your body with surprise, you or your nearby relatives may get injured or objects near you may get damaged.

Precautions for cleaning the product

Do not spray water directly onto the product when cleaning it.
Otherwise, it may cause a fire or electric shock.
When cleaning the product, make sure that you pull out the power cord first and wipe the surface of the product lightly with a dry cloth. Do not use chemicals or detergents when cleaning the product. If you experience the following issues while using the product, please perform several checks, as they may not be malfunctions.

General Errors

Issue	Solution
The product does not work properly	Unplug the power cables and any external devices such as your TV, subwoofer, or amplifier from the product, then plug them in again.
The power does not turn on	Is the power cord plugged into the outlet properly? Connect the power plug to the outlet correctly.
There is no sound	Is the volume set to minimum? Press the Volume button on the remote control to turn up the volume. If you are using an external device such as a set-top box, portable device, or Bluetooth device, adjust the volume of the external device. Is the mute function activated? If “MUTE” appears on the status display, the mute function is on. Press the Mute button to unmute. Is the correct product function selected according to the external device connected? Press the Function button to check if you selected the correct function. Connect the audio cables into the connection terminals correctly.
Radio stations cannot be tuned in properly.	The antenna is positioned poorly. Reorient the antenna position to good reception. The signal strength of the radio station is too weak. Tune to the station manually. No stations have been preset or preset stations have been cleared (when tuning by scanning preset channels). Preset some radio stations, ([ See “Presetting the Radio Stations” on page 33.)
The remote control does not work properly	When using the remote control, point it at the front of the product. Use the remote control within a 7-m radius of the product. Replace the batteries with new ones as needed.
The Auto Power function does not work	Check connection to external devices (ex. set-top box, portable device, Bluetooth device).
LG Sound Sync does not work	Check whether your TV supports LG Sound Sync. Check if the TV is properly connected to the product via an optical cable. Press the Settings button on the TV remote control to check if the function is turned on in [LG Sound Sync].
The product volume is low	Check the following and change the settings accordingly. Run the LG XBOOM app, tap the More product settings button on the first screen, and disable the [DRC] function on the [Device Settings] menu. When the product is connected to a TV, press the Settings button on the TV remote control, select the [Speaker] menu, and change the [Digital Sound Output] setting from [PCM] to [AUTO] or [BITSTREAM]. If the product is connected to a playback device such as a DVD player or Blu-ray disc player, go to the connected device's Settings menu. Change the [Digital Sound Output] setting from [PCM] to [PRIMARY PASS-THROUGH] or [BITSTREAM]. Set the [DRC] of the connected device to [OFF].
The product fails to recognise a USB storage device	The product may not support the file format of the USB storage device. Format the USB storage device and reconnect it. When formatting, refer to the USB storage device formats supported by the product and select an appropriate file format. ([ See “Connecting to a USB Storage Device” on page 45.)
A Bluetooth device cannot be paired	Press the Settings button on the Bluetooth device and check whether the Bluetooth function is enabled. If Bluetooth is enabled, turn it off and on, then try again. Remove any obstacles between the product and the Bluetooth device. Bluetooth pairing (connection) may not work properly depending on the Bluetooth device type or the surrounding environment.

Handling the Product

When shipping the Product

Please save the original shipping carton and packing materials. If you need to ship the product, for maximum protection, re-pack the product as it was originally packed at the factory.

Keeping the exterior surfaces clean

Do not use volatile liquids such as insecticide spray near the product.
Wiping with strong pressure may damage the surface.
Do not leave rubber or plastic products in contact with the product for a long period of time.

Cleaning the product

To clean the product, use a soft, dry cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not use strong solvents such as alcohol, benzine, or thinner, as these might damage the surface of the product.
