Checking Ignition of the Surface Burners

Electric Ignition

Select a surface burner knob and simultaneously push in and turn to Hi position. You will hear a clicking sound indicating proper operation of the spark module.

Once the air has been purged from the supply lines the burner should ignite within 4 seconds. Keep the knob pressed for a few seconds until the flame stabilizes. Try each burner in succession until all burners have been checked.

In the event of the burner flames being accidentally extinguished, turn off burner control and do not attempt to re-ignite the burner for at least 1 min.

The device shall not be operated for more than 15 s. If after 15 s the burner has not lit, stop operating the device and open the compartment door and/or wait at least 1 min before attempting a further ignition of the burner.

Quality of Flames

The combustion quality of the burner flames needs to be confirmed visually.

Yellow flames

Call for service.

Yellow tips on outer cones

This is normal for LP gas.

Soft blue flames

This is normal for natural gas.

  • With LP gas, some yellow tipping on outer cones is normal.
