Can I use a rack to cook on two levels at once?

Only use the rack that is supplied with your microwave oven. Use of any other rack can result in poor cooking performance and/or arcing and may damage your oven.

Can I use either metal or aluminum pans in my microwave oven?

Usable metal includes aluminum foil for shielding (use small, flat pieces), and shallow foil trays (if tray is 3/4 inch deep and filled with food to absorb microwave energy).

Never allow metal to get too close to the oven walls during cooking.

Will the microwave function be damaged if I operate the oven while it is empty?

Yes. Never run the oven while it is empty.

Why do eggs sometimes pop?

When baking, frying, or poaching eggs, the yolk may pop due to steam buildup inside the yolk membrane. To prevent this, simply pierce the yolk before cooking. Never microwave eggs in the shell.

Does microwave energy pass through the viewing screen in the door?

No. The holes, or ports, are made to allow light to pass; they do not let microwave energy through.

Why does the door of the microwave oven sometimes appear wavy?

This appearance is normal and does not affect the operation of your oven.

Why does the oven make humming noises while operating?

This is the sound of the transformer when the magnetron tube cycles on and off.

Why does the dish become hot when I microwave food in it?

During use the appliance becomes hot. Always be careful when taking cookware out of the oven. Some dishes absorb heat from the cooked food and may be hot.

Can I pop popcorn in my microwave oven?

Refer to the Sensor Popcorn Mode section and follow directions on bag.

Why does steam come out of the air exhaust vent?

Steam is normally produced during cooking. The microwave oven has been designed to vent this steam out the top vent.
